The popular sledding hill at Wyman Woods is closed for the season as it undergoes repairs. However, the Scioto Country Club, a private club in neighboring Upper Arlington, has opened its popular sledding hill to Grandview residents.
“We thought it was the right thing to do,” said club president Jay Smayles. “We’re glad that we can help out the less fortunate members in our area.”
Smayles mentioned that the Upper Arlington pools opened their doors to Grandview residents when the Grandview Pool was closed for repairs a few year ago. It went so well he thought that they could do something similar.
“Mind you, we don’t want them to enter the clubhouse at all,” Smayles remarked. “Or interact with the members in any way. And we don’t want them to park at the club. We have a reputation to uphold, and minivans don’t fit in with that.”
Local residents were overjoyed at the news.
“I thought that winter was ruined,” said Joan Smurch, who has two children. “I mean, what are you supposed to do other than sled when it snows? I can’t think of anything.”
“We are willing to put up with flashers and break-ins and stolen cars. But closing the sledding hill? We started looking to move.”
